The first thing that happened on the day of our move, was getting a phone call from Delta saying that our flight was cancelled from Detroit to L.A.…lovely! They managed to squeeze us onto another flight that would take us to Salt Lake City first and then L.A. so that we could catch the same flight to Sydney.
We then went to church and heard a great message about God’s plans for us and it was the perfect message for us…other than when the pastor talked about how things might be looking for us right now…having a home & 2 cars and getting ready for summer…with us being homeless, carless and going into Australia’s winter.
After church, we rushed home to eat and gather all of our things together. (we had borrowed bedding and towels from my parents so that we could stay in our house) Some family members came over for lunch and to see us off. It was crazy as our diver was waiting for us to come out and it seemed as though we ran out of our house! All of our luggage would not fit in the van they sent, so my parents had to follow us to the airport-which I’m happy about as I wouldn’t have gotten these pictures otherwise-thanks Dad!
This was a LOT to haul with us! Carry-ons alone, we had 10, not including the girls backpacks! That was a lot to deal with, especially with the extra layover that got added! Plus, we had the stroller and Hallie’s car seat. with us. Alaina was a big help, not only with Hallie, but with helping to carry luggage too. We were surely a sight to see at all of the airports!
The girls did amazingly on all the flights-so happy!! At least 2 slept on each of the shorter flights and all 3 slept great on the long flight. Kyla slept the first 10 hours! Hallie was so cute during the long flight, walking up and down the aisles waving at everyone. She also kept touching and waking up sleeping passengers. And Kyla was hilarious every time the planes turned…she would yell, “We’re tipping!” And on our flight from Salt Lake City to L.A., these high school grad/cousins played with the kids the entire flight-having them raise their arms during take off and teasing them, etc. All in all, a great travel time with 3 kiddos!
After over 27 hours of travel, we arrived in Sydney, Australia! 3 pieces of luggage didn’t leave the airport with us though as one got picked up by someone else and 2 took a detour in Hawaii! We did receive all the luggage within a couple days, thank goodness!
