We got up early this day ad took the 2+ hour trip west to the Blue Mountains in Katoomba, with our main stop at Scenic World. Once we arrived, we decided to eat our picnic lunch and then take our first adventure on the skyway.
Once we made our way across the gorge, we were told it would be a 10 minute walk to get to the Three Sisters rock formation…yeah right! It probably took us 25 minutes (we did have 3 young children with us) just to get over to Echo Point, and then would’ve been an additional 10 or so minutes to get out to the Three Sisters. There were some beautiful views ahead of us though, so we endured.
I’ve been so happy to see the beautiful autumn leaves since we missed them completely in 2013 in Michigan.
We made it to Echo Point and marveled at the beauty.
Cool view of the bridge and platform in the rock (we visited it later in the day)
Hallie was looking through the grates here and people thought she was so cute and were taking pictures of her…I was just laughing at her obliviousness of laying in the middle of the viewing area.
Hallie was having a pretty rough day, very tired and not sure what she wanted…she’d ask to be held, but when I put her in the carrier, she’d immediately ask to walk and vice versa…here I thought just having one child with me that day would be a piece of cake!
We walked down to check out the waterfall before taking the skyway back
Then it was on to the steepest incline railway in the world
More great views of the Three Sisters
From the railway, we took the boardwalk to the cableway
Hallie was full of all sorts of emotions, from being cheeky and putting her mouth on the wires (I did get her to stop), being super giggly and happy, and then throwing absolute tantrums, and then recovering and being cuddly..and this was all in just like 5 minutes time!
A lyre bird (plays a role in one of the legends of the Three Sisters Rock Formation)
We took the cableway up and the kids enjoyed the front row seats
Checking out all the gears that work these cool rides
We decided since we still had some daylight left, we’d drive back over to Echo Point and take the walk all the way down to the 1st sister.
Very steep and rough stairway going down!
The sun was setting after a beautiful day and it made for the perfect time to be exactly where we were-breathtaking!
The Davidson family enjoyed another day in the city and we sent them off with a traditional Aussie meal. We had a great visit with them and are looking forward to seeing them in June!
