On our final day, we headed north back to Darwin. We had a ridiculous flight time, leaving at 1:45am, so we had ALL of the day to spend! We made it to Darwin around lunch time and enjoyed a picnic lunch, a play at the park and beautiful views of the coastline.
We drove around Darwin to check out the city before heading to the Botanic Gardens.
We walked around the waterfalls, bridges, rainforest and beautiful flowers.
Do you see this “wall” of spider webs? Crazy!
We saw people staring at and taking pictures of this tree…I thought, yeah, that’s a pretty tree-I’ll take a photo too…as we got closer, we realized the tree wasn’t what had them oohing and ahhing!
After seeing this insanely huge python, we continued our walk through the gardens and enjoyed the many beautiful flowers.
We stopped at the children’s playground for a few minutes before heading out.
Enjoying the sunset and walking around the memorials along Darwin’s waterfront
WWII Oil Storage Tunnels-Darwin's secret underground tunnels that we were too late to get to walk through
From here, we headed back out onto the wharf for a yummy seafood dinner to end our vacation.
We then headed toward the airport around 9pm. Hallie fell asleep in the car, so we actually decided to find a place to park, set the alarm and sleep for a little. Around 11pm, Hallie woke up, so we went to the airport, returned the rental car and got checked in. The IPAD with some new shows I downloaded for this very purpose were our saving grace with tired children! They stayed up and watched shows until we boarded the plane and slept pretty well during the flight. We arrived in Sydney around 6:15am and the kids went to school 3 hours later! They wanted to go and I knew they’d be happier there that sitting around home…Hallie slept a fair bit at home and all were back on track the following day. For as bad of a flight as it could’ve been, it actually went VERY well! Great vacation!!
