Since we had been spending all of our family time together so far getting settled, grocery shopping, looking at vehicles, etc., we wanted to enjoy a family fun weekend to celebrate one month of living in Australia. We decided to head southwest a little to the Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday. We drove out the 2000 Olympic site to check things out and then headed over to Blaxland Riverside Park. While we were there, we went on the bird trail through the Newington Armory and learned a little more about Australian birds. The girls got to color and play in the children’s area.
We walked around the Armory for little, seeing an area that the U.S. housed some of their weapons during WWII and some other cool buildings.
We then went over by the river and the girls played on this really fun climbing area before we ate lunch. Kyla climbed all the way across!
After our picnic lunch, we went over to the COOLEST playground any of us have ever been too…fun for kids & adults!! These mega swings allowed you to go SO high and Alaina even got some pictures of Brian & I on them!
These tunnel slides were tucked in the hills all around us with rock climbing walls, tunnels and other climbing structures to get back to the top.
The big girls also loved the spinning play disk thing as well as the Viking swing and the flying fox!
We climbed the multi-level tree house that overlooked the river and the splash pad/sand play area before grabbing some ice cream!
We then walked to a lookout point for a nice view before heading back to the van…stopping to play at all of our favorite spots one more time.
We are really looking forward to coming here again, hopefully with our bikes so we can explore the great trails!
On Sunday we kept it a little more low key since the kids went without naps on Saturday, and spent our morning at a new church and then to a outdoor market where the girls got to get their faces painted. We checked out Costco nearby afterward before calling it a day.
What a great playground, so glad you found it! And Woohoo for Costco :)
