This was a day to spend close to home. We started our day off with a short drive to West Head Lookout. It’s a stunning viewpoint where you can see Broken Bay on your left, Pittwater on your right and Barrenjoey Headland and Lighthouse in front. You can also enjoy amazing vistas across the Hawkesbury River to Lion Island Nature Reserve and the beaches of the Central Coast, including Patonga and Umina Beach. Though I’m yet to see any wildlife along the way, there are heaps of signs along the way!
It is believed that the person who named Lion Island thought it resembled the gigantic half man, half lion sculpture (Sphinx) which guards the Pyramids in Egypt.
West Head was once used by the army to defend Sydney against foreign invasion. West Head Battery was built during WWII.
Barrenjoey Headland and Lighthouse
Then it was off to the girls’ school to give them a tour
The infant court (Kindy & Year 1)
Kyla’s old classroom was actually open for them to see
The outdoor pools and canteen
The COLA (Covered Outdoor Learning Area)
The Hall
Adventure Playground
Then it was off to the shops to get a few items….they were intrigued by the posties (Postal Carriers) along the way and all of the different things at the shop, including the inclined moving walkways with trolley wheel locking and the parking area with light indicators and digital info displays for availability.
Once we were back home, it was time to decorate our Christmas cookies.
Then it was off to Hillsong Church for the Christmas Eve Service…and what a service it was!!
Yes, they are riding in on donkeys!
Lambs and camels followed suit.
The chapel and pictures in the main foyer
Checking out the animals after the service
Setting cookies out for Santa
Alaina’s sweet letter to Santa
Putting out food for the reindeer
All ready!!
