The next morning, Brian and I went for a lovely run around the capital city.
We grabbed breakfast and a few photos of our great, 4-bedroom apartment before heading out for the day.
Our first stop was the Royal Australian Mint, where every single Australian coin in the pockets of millions of Australians is made.
We watched an informative video on the coin making process.
We then toured the museum and gallery, checking out the early, rare, and historically significant coins.
Checking out the Mint's observation gallery where you can see the coin production factory
Titan, one of the strongest robots in the world.
The kids had a blast coloring pictures while we toured the museum!
Queen Elizabeth II officially opened the new Parliament House in Canberra in 1988 with this very special key that was manufactured here at the Royal Australian Mint.
As we were leaving the Mint, we learned why there were people lined up outside…they had been there since Christmas Day and were waiting for the first coin to be released in 2015.
Then it was off to Questacon, The National Science and Technology Centre, with more than 200 interactive exhibits.
Our first stop in Questacon was the Science Show, Instrumental as Anything.
After lunch in the café, we started to explore the different galleries.
Perception Deception Gallery
The Wonderworks Gallery where you can explore colour, movement, light and sound. You can play music using light beams or meditate on the harmonic motion of a pendulum.
Awesome Earth Gallery: exploring the phenomena that drive our world through heat, gravity and momentum
Building structures to withstand the simulated earthquakes.
Then we took the girls to the Mini Q, the custom-built environment for little scientists. They enjoyed exploring the different stations.
The Q Lab, with a wide range of scientific activities and demonstrations
A giant periodic table containing actual samples of 94 of the 118 known elements that are the building blocks of the universe.
Next stop was the high energy, high impact and highly addictive, Excite@Q. where you can feel the adrenalin pumping as you free fall down a six metre slide, battle a robot in a game of air hockey, test your reflexes against your friends or try to keep your balance as you move through the Rototron.
The big girls gave it a go, but this is as far as they made it. Kyla was SO determined to go and ended up at the top of the slide 2 more times, trying to build up her courage.
Matthew vs. the robot
A little 4-way air hockey
Last stop was the H2O Gallery
Information we learned about water….and an answer all Americans want to know!
Driving back home! Great trip!
