We squeezed in a short 6 night vacation into our holiday plans the week before school would start back up. We were excited to see another part of Australia as well as get to visit our family that lives there! We geared up for 3 nights in Kangaroo Island & 3 nights in Adelaide.
We’ve become old pros at this luggage at the airport gig. Our girls are such great helpers!
Once we got our rental car, we hit the road to head to Cape Jervis to catch the ferry to Kangaroo Island. It was close to a 2 hour drive for us and our girls got some much needed rest along the way. Yes, that’s drool on Hallie…that’s what happens when you book an early morning flight!
Arriving at the ferry terminal
The girls and I boarded the ferry while Daddy drove the car on.
Just a 45 min. ferry ride and you can KI in the distance
Gotta love crazy, free-spirited Kyla!
See both the main land and Kangaroo Island
Inside the cabin, we enjoyed some snacks and cards
Coming into Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island.
We had picked up groceries in Adelaide after getting our rental car, so once we hit KI, we drove to our accommodation for the night, Western Kangaroo Island Caravan Park. Here’s a look at the cabin that we stayed in.
It was quite nice, with 2 bedrooms, a bathroom and sleeper sofa. We went straight to work making dinner from the groceries we bought. We had a great dinner with grilled chicken, potatoes and salad…which we then used for the next few days as chicken wraps and chicken salads for lunches.
There were tons of beautiful birds all around and on top of our cabin.
After dinner, we walked around the park and found tons of the native wallabies, the Tammar Wallabies.
Then we hit the properties Walking Trail
My biggest hope for this trip was to see koalas in the wild and we found 2 (I saw a 3rd on my run the next morning) up in the gum trees on our nature walk! We were SO excited!

Getting a closer look
We also more kangaroos and wallabies and large flocks of Pink Galahs (parrots)
I snapped a few shots on the back to our cabin along the walking trail.
