From Weirs Cove, we drove a few minutes to Remarkable Rocks. We learned a little bit more about Kangaroo Island here. KI has been isolated from the mainland for several long periods over the last 50 million years. The most recent connection with the mainland is thought to be 10,000 years ago. In isolation, many of the wildlife species evolved differently from mainland species. Some are found only on KI.
This stunning work of nature has been shaped by the erosive forces of wind, sea spray and rain over some 500 million years. The boulders where formed by rain penetrating the granite and decomposing the rocks into blocks. The exposed boulders are now being sculpted by wind and water forming the caves, overhangs and gullies. The golden orange lichen covering some of the rocks varies in colour throughout the day.
We had so much fun walking around and climbing up on these remarkable rocks.
The girls found this fun rock with a hole in it and opened a little restaurant! It was hard to pry them away for it!
We’re so strong!
Love how this one looked like a pig face.
So much fun was had here!
As we were leaving Flinders Chase National Park, we saw this cute little koala up in the tree.
We then drove to the northeast side of Kangaroo Island and grabbed dinner in Kingscote before heading to our accommodation for the next 2 nights in Emu Bay.
This was a great little 2-bedroom cottage. Very nice inside and a great view of the sea! The owners left us a special treat too!
The girls were very excited about the double bunk beds!
After we unpacked, we headed across the street the the playground, followed by a nice walk along the beach to the pier.
The pelicans were a treat to see.
