We had a rough night the previous night! Hallie was up throughout the night with a bad croupy cough. So, off to the doctor’s this morning! 2 doctor visits on this trip-2 too many! At least this place was nice and they got Hallie in straight away! We got her some steroids and continued on our way! Poor baby!
We headed to the east cost of Australia to start our coastal drive back home. Our first stop was to Paynesville
Here is the Paynesville Fishermans Wharf-In 1879, Paynesville became the principal fishing village in the Gippsland Lakes. This became the hub of the fishing industry and was central to the social and commercial life of the village. The largest shipment of fish from Paynesville was 620 baskets (12.5 tons) of fish in a single day!
We enjoyed a picnic lunch of fish and chips and sandwiches before hopping on the ferry over to Raymond Island.
From here, we started on the 1.2km Koala Walk. In Victoria, koalas were almost wiped out by the 1920s. Some were relocated to islands for protection, Raymond Island being one of them. By 2003, koala numbers here had grown to over 600. This put their food supply under stress. There is now a population management program which involves fertility control and relocation of koalas.
We counted 20 on our walk….
We also saw a lot of different birds, including these 2 Tawny Frogmouths.
A few more koalas on our walk…
We continued on a little further to our accommodation for the night.
We had grabbed groceries earlier in the day, so we enjoyed a dinner in and some cards at night!
