After a nice morning run by the water, we headed into the town of Metung to enjoy their market, bakery and waterfront.
Jellyfish!
They had a nice park there as well.
After a nice morning, we packed up and headed north. We stopped at this amazing view overlooking the entrance to the Gippsland Lakes. The Gippsland Lakes are a focal point for recreation, commercial activity and shorebird conservation. You can see from left to right, Bullock Island, the Lakes Entrance out to the sea, the Gippsland Lakes National Park, Rigby Island Shorebird Colony, Hopetoun Channel and Rigby Island.
We decided to stop and take in some of the beautiful scenery by foot.
We took the footbridge across to the 90 mile beach.
And this is JUST after Brian said, “you should all go feel the water” and I said, “no way, the kids will get so wet and sandy” but he still thought it was a good idea…does anyone look wet??
Some pantsless cuties!
Next stop along the way was to the famous Bega Cheese Heritage Centre.
They had a great cheese sample area and we ended up buying a few-yum!
We also got ice creams cones before walking around.
After, we did a quick drive through the towns of Tilba Tilba and Central Tilba. The towns are characterized by their 19th century weatherboard cottages and fine Victorian timber buildings, as well as the maintenance of creative traditions in the arts of glasswork, candle making, winemaking and woodturning. It was definitely a step back in time seeing these perfectly preserved heritage villages.
Narooma was another beautiful town that we drove through but could have easily spent more time in.
We grabbed dinner in Bateman’s Bay before heading to out last accommodation.
