We got to hear a reptile koala talk as well as get our photo with a koala…I actually got to hold it! You can’t even do this in New South Whales (where we live) as it is illegal due to someone dropping one or something. But you can still hold them in Queensland!
We then headed into the Wetlands Habitat to explore some unique birds and animals. Here is the Cassowary.
This was really cool to see-black-necked storks with babies of their own! Bath time!!
And this guy freaked me right out as I walked through the door, heard a noise, and looked up!
Watching the koalas…not much movement…sleeping most of day away!
We then walked by the restaurant area where you can have breakfast with the birds before heading in to the Grasslands Habitat. We love the rainbow lorikeets-so pretty and they are a common bird around our house!
This area was so cool as the girls got to pet and feed kangaroos and wallabies.
This one had a joey in her pouch-so cool! Can you see his tail??
The joey gave us a bit of a show when he hopped out of the pouch and got a bath before trying to jump back in! SO CUTE!
These pelicans were super cool as well!
Off to see the crocodiles
And on our way out, these 2 little guys were blocking the gate, so we fed and played with them a bit before leaving the area
We then joined up a tour in the Rainforest Habitat where we learned a lot about the different birds. This part did not seem to interest Hallie.
Tree frog
The female Eclectus Parrot just minding her own business when the male decided to harass her…men!
These little green ants were very interesting. It was actually suggested to us to lick them abdomen (the green part) and so we all (except Hallie) tried it…yes, we’re weird, but our curiosity trumps all). It was a very sour lime type taste and kind of jolts you like if you’ve as a kid (or an adult??) licked the end of a battery. Crazy little things!!
Back by the bird lounge, we all got to hold (& feed) the lorikeets.
Visiting with the Frog-Mouthed Owl
The storks were walking around on the roof canopy
And poor Hallie watching her sisters eat a popsicle…she wasn’t awake when we got them so she had other snacks.
This duck (which doesn’t quack-these ducks actually whistle instead) was saying goodbye to us. We had a great time visiting!
Did you notice the big crocodile looks like he has a kangaroo face on his back?
